■520    ▼aAfter  investigating  several  slotted  MAC  protocols  for  the  HFC  network,  this  paper  presents  a  new  one.  The  proposed  MAC  protocol  with  an  unslotted  CSMA/CD  scheme  may  provide  the  solution  of  network  fairness  using  the  probabilistic  transmission  but  it  has  relatively  lower  throughput  compared  with  the  slotted  protocols.  In  addition,  it  is  noted  that  its  simplicity  of  implementation  may  be  advantageous  over  the  slotted  protocols
